Leaving 2
While I’m working my thoughts surround the life I’ve lived so far. The works created at the time, become a representation of my thought processes. Memory plays a strange game in my head and it is not easy to shift the pattern consciously. Memories of lying on the grass under a Jacaranda tree in Sunnyside, when I was about seven or eight, looking up at the stark lines the branches made against the blue-blue sky. A multitude of lines, forms, shapes, that became a pastime where my imagination could see into the future. Forever branding the Jacaranda branch as a symbol of my life into my retina. I now cast those branches in bronze and allow myself reminiscence of those lost naïve days.
A decision was made and action taken. From the moment your hand leaves the side you cast off from, there is an eternity of considerations, repeating in that instant before you turn and look ahead again. A vessel could carry many things. The vessel could carry meaning across a divide. The oars don’t seem very practical, or are they lightning strikes? An eternity of remembering and forgiveness. The connotations I have with leaving remains positive and look to a new future with hope.
